Deep clean vs. standard clean: which one do you need?

The deep clean vs. standard clean question comes up on almost every call we get. The short answer: a standard clean maintains a home, and a deep clean resets it. Here's how to tell which one your home needs right now.

What a standard clean covers

A standard clean is the regular upkeep. We clean kitchens and bathrooms, dust reachable surfaces and furniture, vacuum carpets and rugs, mop hard floors, and empty the trash. It's designed to be done every week, every two weeks, or every month on a home that's already in decent shape.

Standard cleaning starts at $150 for homes up to 2,000 square feet.

What a deep clean adds

A deep clean includes all of that, plus the detail work that builds up slowly. We hand-wipe baseboards, doors, door frames, and light switches. We dust vents, ceiling fan blades, and blinds. We scrub grout, degrease the stovetop and range hood, and vacuum under and behind furniture we can move.

Deep cleaning starts at $300 for homes up to 2,000 square feet. It takes longer, often about twice as long as a standard clean.

When to pick a deep clean

Pick a deep clean if it's your first professional cleaning, if it's been more than a couple of months, or if you can see dust on fan blades and baseboards from across the room. It's also the right call before hosting, after a renovation, or for a seasonal reset.

Trying to save money by booking a standard clean on a home that needs a deep one usually backfires. The standard checklist won't get to the buildup, and you'll still see it after we leave.

When a standard clean is enough

If your home was professionally cleaned in the last month or so, or you keep up with things yourself, a standard clean is all you need. Most of our recurring clients start with one deep clean and then book standard visits every two weeks after that.

A simple way to decide

Walk into your kitchen and bathroom and look at the edges. Check the baseboards, the grout lines, the tops of door frames, and the ceiling fan. If those spots look fine, a standard clean will handle the rest. If you see a layer of dust or grime in more than one of them, book a deep clean first.

The same test works for bedrooms and living rooms. Blinds and vents are usually the first things to give it away. Once they're clean, standard visits keep them from building up again, and the next deep clean is months away instead of weeks.
